NPort S9450I series full-function 4-port RS-232/422/485 serial device servers with built-in managed Ethernet switch are designed specifically for the harsh environmental conditions of electrical substations. With fiber and Ethernet port support, the serial device server plus Ethernet switch combination enables easy installation, management and maintenance of the NPort S9450I as well as attached serial devices.

NPort S9000 series industrial serial Ethernet converters have high level overcurrent protection to prevent damages caused by overcurrent and EMIs that may be encountered in substations and industrial automation applications. When combined with the -40 to 85°C operating temperature range and galvanic steel casing, the NPort S9000 becomes a device that can be used without problems in a wide range of industrial conditions.

Another plus is that the NPort S9000 has dual power inputs that provide both redundancy and a wide voltage supply range. WV models are compatible with 24/48 VDC power input (18 to 72 VDC), while HV models support 88 to 300 VDC and 85 to 264 VAC.

The current trend in energy sector SCADA applications is to manage and control both IT devices (switches, routers, etc.) and IEDs (sensors, actuators, etc.) with the MMS protocol. In contrast, the traditional approach has been to use SNMP for IT devices and MMS for IEDs in device management. System integrators may even need to manage legacy devices that use proprietary communications protocols. NPort S9000 device servers are the first device servers in the world to integrate MMS with an IT-type device specifically designed for energy SCADA applications. NPort S9000 even supports the use of MMS to control serial communication between legacy devices.

The NPort S9000 series offers maximum flexibility for the integration of industrial Modbus/DNP3 networks of all types and sizes. NPort S9000 is designed to integrate Modbus TCP, ASCII and RTU devices in virtually any master/slave combination, including simultaneous serial and Ethernet masters. NPort S9000 device servers also support protocol conversion between DNP3 serial and DNP3 IP. All models are durable and can be installed on DIN-rail.

IEEE 62443 Level 2 compliant NPort S9000 series is also designed to develop NERC CIP compliant systems to provide a high level of cyber security. Protecting critical networks against cyber attacks is a high priority for industrial automation applications. This protection can take a hit during extended network outages.

Communication networks at the edge device level are extremely critical as they are used in control and device control processes for industrial automation.
